I was just wondering

...what the weather is like where you are?

It is December 28th. Here in Southwestern Ontario we have no snow. There is no snow in the forecast for the next 2 weeks. We got a few inches of snow in early December but it is long gone. The grass is still green for pete's sake! It continues to be quite mild with temperatures 5 to 10 degrees above seasonal.

I'm not complaining. Any day I don't have to shovel snow or scrape the frost off the windshield is a gift as far as I'm concerned. But it makes me wonder. This kind of weather is becoming the new "normal".

You hear so much about global warming and climate change these days. I'm no scientist, but I can tell you that I have observed the climate changing here over the last 15 years or so. It is milder all the way around. Who is to say what is causing it? Maybe it is global warming, or maybe it is merely a normal, cyclical shift in the climate. As stewards, we should be concerned if our actions are harming the earth that God entrusted to our care. But in the end, it's in His hands and I trust Him with it. I have a hard time getting all worked up about it.

So, what's the weather like where you are?

This is so strange! I was thinking about the weather as I was driving down the road today, in fact, I was going to blog on it when I got home! You beat me to it! *grin* It is beautiful here! Sunny and high 60's. Totally unlike "normal" December weather. I feel like God's people are discerning the times.

What is it normally like in December? "Normal" for this time of year used to be a bit below zero, but it's been hovering around 3 or 4 degrees. Sunday will be up to 7 degrees. I think that's around 45.

So now we're all resorting to talking about the weather? ;-)

I know you told us in that funny blog post back at FP (the one about the differences between Canada and the U.S.), but I forget - you use celsius for weather temp? What about the oven?

It's been really warm here. I think it's around 48 degrees F. right now. Our grass is still really, really green.

Hey sweety, the weather here is crazy also. Tempertures during the day are in the 60"s, and at night in the 40"s. Sure does not feel like winter.

Sara - yes, celcius for weather temp (so, 30 degrees C is a scorcher of a day, like 85 F or something) but fahrenheit for the oven temp. I weigh myself in pounds (and I'm not telling you how many!) but I buy meat by the kilo. Liquids are all pretty uniformly measured in litres/millilitres - a can of pop is 355 ml for example, and length is pretty standard in centimetres, metres, kilometres. But it's not unusual to get a recipe that calls for 15 ml (1 tbsp.) of this and 250 ml (1 cup) of that. Some of the old measures just hang on.

But the green grass...weird, eh?

Just reading Sara's comments had me lol, FOR REAL.

I guess I shouldn't use the term "normal" We have varying temps., but for this time of year, it would usually be in the 40's. Most people are not complaining and see it as a blessing, considering the gas prices! I have to agree with you that the winters have become milder than time past. Given the area in which I live, we have been known to experience extreme changes from one day to the next. One particular winter, Christmas Eve in fact, I had gone out earlier in the day shopping. It was in the 70's, before I could get home the temp had dropped drastically and I needed a coat. I have previously stated that my state has probably went through all four seasons in one week!

I lived in Minnesota for a short time and believe me, after all the snow, there's no place like home!

Da Hubby and I were just talking about this last night - we haven't had a "good" winter here in SW Michigan since 2001. Haven't used the snow blower more than half dozen times each season. It's really weird.

It was 50 degrees on Cmas here despite a 50/50 chance of snow forecasted for that afternoon.

The temperature around here is pretty mild even for us (57 F) but a few weeks ago it was unseasonably cold. We are expecting another cold snap this weekend and (according to my husband) the 5 inches of rain that we have been down this year. We could really use that rain.

P. S.

How do you handle going back and forth between English and metric mesurements all the time?

Its weird, as you know Im in Florida right now on vacation with my parents, its the end of December and its 80 degrees and Im getting sunburned! Back home in Jersey its in the 50's. Something about getting sunburned and swimming in a pool around Christmas time doesn't seem natural to me :)

Thanks so much for your encouraging comments on my blog. I *love* that you are a deep thinker! And *blush* thank you for adding me as a "friend."

Many blessings in the new year. But more importantly, may you know the Lord more intimately in every circumstance!

In Christ alone,
