Odds and ends
I'm doing something I almost never do - I'm blogging from work. I am waiting for a call to come in so I am taking a "coffee break" and typing as fast as I can!
Thank you everybody for your encouraging words re: the situation with Hope. Sara brings up a very good point, one that I had not thought of re: the kids "playing house" emotionally. I need to think this through more. In case anyone had any doubts, parenting teens is HARD! Still, I am coming to appreciate how blessed our family truly is - we simply don't have the parent-child conflicts that so many of our friends have. I LIKE my kids and we all get along well.
I am getting SO excited about leaving for vacation on Thursday! Just 2 more sleeps! I'm not sure how much I'll be around here for the next two weeks - I have a lot to do yet to finish packing etc. and we will not have internet access while we are away. I'll be living "offline"!
I am so spoiled! Guess what my boss got me yesterday? A brand new HP 2o inch widescreen pivoting LCD monitor! It is DA BOMB! I love it. I played with it all afternoon yesterday, checking out the features. Does that make me a geek?
Our family (me, hubby and the kids) decided not to give each other Christmas gifts this year. There's really nothing we want or need so we are each coming up with an idea to give something (time, talent or treasure) where we see a need. Each will write out their idea, with as many details (where, when, who, etc.) as possible and wrap it up in a box. Then we will open them up Christmas Eve. I am more excited about seeing what the others have come up with than I ever could be about another gift under the tree.
Oh! Break time's over. Gotta go. Catch you later!

Oh I cannot wait until my DDs are old enough to avoid the whole gift-giving trap at Christmas. We have always only given them each a few presents, some toys that they have been asking for, etc. My hubby and I always wait until after Christmas and hit the sales together, so we never have anything for each other under the tree. But I am now finding the whole Christmas gift thing tedious and an huge waste of money. Especially for those $10 gift exchanges where you end up buying junk that the other person doesn't need and they do the same for you. I have always wanted to say "Ok, my present to you is that you don't have to buy me a present, and your present to me is that I don't have to buy you a present". And no, I'm not Scrooge. I love Christmas! It's just that it seems so out of control lately.....
You family's idea sounds WONDERFUL!!! Once again, I am taking notes s that I can use them in the future. :)
Anita, your blog is such a peace-filled place that just welcomes people with love. I'm sure your home is even more so! What an awesome blessing God has given you to be able to witness and make a lasting, positive impact on Hope's life!!! I know how much you love Jesus and want to serve Him with your whole heart and life, and this situation with Hope is an area where God has gifted you! I know you'll be such a blessing to her because God is in you and He's doing a wonderful work in and through you!
Praise the Lord in EVERYthing! I love you! Hugs, Marilee
