Silent supper
My dinner was so delicious I have to tell you all about it.
Grilled lemon pepper catfish with mango salsa on rice with mesclun greens. It was so yummy. I wish I had taken a picture of it, it was so pretty with the mangoes. You would have liked it too, I'm sure.
It was just my husband and I for supper tonight. I can't remember the last time it was just the two of us alone for dinner. At home I mean.
It was pretty quiet at the table. Mid-way through dinner my husband spoke up in the silence, "This is nice, isn't it?"
"Yes," I agreed halfheartedly. "Peaceful."
"You miss them don't you?" My husband had this sympathetic look on his face.
"Well, maybe a little," I allowed and put a big forkful of rice into my mouth so I didn't have to speak for a bit.
I guess I just wished I had someone else to share my yummy supper with...

oh man, that sounds good.
Yes, it sounds delicious!!! I would have loved to share it with you!!!
So what kinds of things did you & your hubby do "BK" (Before Kids)?
Dale & I have never NOT had kids so I don't have a clue how it will feel when we're finally empty nesters... of course that's a long way off. We're planning to continue doing foster care for at least 20 more years. There's such a wonderful feeling in seeing one of God's children learn, grow, blossom... Raising kids is the hardest job we'll ever LOVE!
We started doing foster care because we felt God calling us to reach out to troubled youth. In no way did money ever factor in and we certainly do NOT make a lot of money. We get housing and a small salary - the two of us together make about as much as ONE of the office staff.
But sadly, we are finding out that there really are people who do foster care for the money. We're working with a parent now (and for the past 2 years) who keeps taking more foster kids so she can keep up her house payments, get a brand new (expensive) vehichle every 2 years, ... it makes me sick. One of the kids she took in about 10 years ago and even adopted about 7 years ago, has been in foster care for the past 3 years - 2 years with us. She no longer has custody but she complains a lot about not having enough money cause she needs more kids.
Please pray for this woman and for others out there who see foster kids as a meal ticket instead of an opportunity to reach out with love for Jesus.
Well... didn't know I was gonna get into all that, but hey, it's good to have good friends to share with!
Love you! Marilee
