At the laundrmat

**I'm blogging in real-time from the laundromat!**

Our washing machine crapped out last week and the repairman can't come until Tuesday. So here I am at the laundromat. I am a huge embarassment to Alli I'm sure, for its been so long since I've been to to the laundromat that I no longer know what to do. The machines are all different and not at all like I remember. Thankfully the man who works here has taken pity on me and showed me how they work. They are huge front loaders and you can cram a lot of clothes into them. He saved me a lot of money by showing me that - I wouldn't have known otherwise.

It is quite expensive too! One load is five dollars, but they are supposed to be triple capacity. (I think they're closer to double.). Still they are very fast...I've got four loads going and it takes 30 minutes for them to wash and another 30 to dry. Even including folding time we should be out of here very quickly.

Ooo, now they're spinning! They go so fast; just about time to put them in the dryer.
Ah, here's Alli with my coffee. There's a Tim Horton's in the plaza - convenient, no?

Back in a minute...have to throw the clothes into a dryer.

Back. I have three dryers going and about 30 minutes to wait. Alli and I are debating whether we should do our folding here or take it home and do it there. I think we should do it here because there's lots of room to spread out and fold but Alli is threatening to wave my "mom-pants" (aka my underpants) around to embarass me. She is an evil child.

There were only two other patrons whe we got here but another half dozen or so folks have come in since then. It's noticably warmer in here now, from all the machines that are going I suppose.

I notice that they also offer laundry service here as well. They will wash fold and dry your laundry for $1.00 per pound. I think I would trust the man here to do that. He has been very helpful - not just to me but to everyone here - he obviously takes his work seriously. I admire that. Let's face it, working in a landromat is not exactly the most glamourous job ever, but this man does it with dignity and obviously takes pride in doing the best job he can. I don't know if he is a Christian but he is a fine example of Colossians 3:?? (Sorry don't know the exact verse or the exact words): "Whatever you do, do it all in the name of the Lord, giving thanks to God the Father through Him."

Well, I took a break to fold the laundry - can't do that and type at the same time - so I'm off to go home now. Thanks for passing the time with me. Pictures to follow!

one nice thing about the laundromat is being able to use more than one machine to get done faster. Good attitude! And a better idea than washing in the kitchen sink with a plunger which is what i tried when my washer broke. It was my grandmother's idea. Sometimes I wonder if the laundry service would work out to be less expensive than doing it yourself.

I think I have found my calling in life.

I *love* to do laundry. Love to flip laundry, love to fold laundry, love to iron laundry. But I *hate* (and never get around to) putting laundry away. Soooooo....I could actually be *paid* to do this? But not have to put anything away?

The only downside is actually having to stay at the laundromat all day. Blech. Too hot. Though I suppose the temperature inside might not be some 130 degrees if I lived north of the Mason Dixon line. Do you think it's below 100 if I get as far north as the Canadian border? I hate "hot." (Despise Virginia this time of year.) (And all the other times of year it's above ninety, which can even happen in January here. Blech.)

My husband thinks I should get back to work on the house now. I think I should google laundromat jobs. Oh - now here's a thought - I could stay in Virginia but invest in one of those personal cooling suits that astronauts and people with MS wear... This could work...

Are you back to work tomorrow?

Kari - Yeah, back to work tomorrow. I am actually paid to be online all day so I guess I've found MY perfect job *snort*. I have another week of vacation coming up in two weeks time.

I don't think I have ever experienced 100 degree F heat. I converted it and that's 38 degrees C. It can sometimes "feel" that hot with the humidity, but I'm almost certain I've never seen it truly that high on the thermometer.

Sara - I was wondering the same thing myself. $1 per pound and they pay for the water, the hydro, the detergent, pre-treat, stain remover, etc, etc. Plus you don't have the expense of buying and maintaining a washer and dryer. I guess it all depends on how much laundry a pound is. That would probably be a lot of socks and mom-pants but not many towels or jeans. Could get expensive in the winter.

38C? LOL Try 50C! That's where the thermometers STOP in Kuwait. Higher and they have to give the workers the day off with pay.

You took pics in the laundromat?!

Ahh, I remember the days spent at the laudromat with loads and loads of baby clothes!!*sigh*

I also remember days of washing clothes in the kitchen sink, sheets and jeans included!!

I have not always been as fortunante as I am right now to have a washer and dryer. I am truly thankful.

Have a good week Anita! Hopefully the repairman will get all the parts to fix your machine good as new.

You took pictures?! LOL

Mr. Bee worked as a "Laundromat Attendant" back in our college days. Sweeping, cleaning lint traps, putting up Out Of Order signs...that sort of thing.

One plus is that he could monitor the Lost & Found box. Anything left for 2 weeks he could have - I got some cute shirts and a sweatshirt I still wear to this day.

Sorry, no pictures. My husband scolded me for taking them. He pointed out that some people might feel that I was looking down or mocking them for going to the laundromat. I hadn't even thought of that, and of course I didn't mean it that way at all, but I'll just refrain from posting the pictures anyways. I sure didn't mean to upset anybody if I did with this post!

Oh, also, I'm not complaining about my husband! He was right to point it out to me. I feel quite bad now about the whole thing.
